Tinago Falls ~ Iligan City/Lanao del Norte ~ Waterfall Warrior

Tinago Falls
Location: Iligan City/Lanao del Norte
Type and height: Cascade/ 73 meters

Iligan is dubbed as the city of majestic waterfalls. It is home of at least 23 waterfalls in the country of various types and beauty.  For one, the powerful Maria Christina falls which we have read in school on text books, is also located in the area. Also, the Tinago falls known for its unique charm which is said to be the most beautiful waterfall in Iligan is also in close distance. Thus, we started the day early to the make most of the day.

Our first destination was Tinago falls. From Iligan City it took us three rides to reach the entrance gate of Tinago falls which actually resides at the border of Ilgan City and Lanao del Norte. From here we trekked thru paved, sometimes slippery, staircase going down. From a mountaineers perspective the stairs heading down is not much of a challenge but be considerate of your own ability. It may be quite a task for some to navigate down the deep ravine but don’t worry, Tinago falls is definitely worth the effort!

A raft is also available that brings you closer to the Waterfalls. Life vest can be rented for Php 20.00 as well.

With the deep waters one, if brave enough, can jump from a cliff for an extra thrill of adventure. Ask the locals to assist you in doing this. Extra precaution please.

Tinago falls is true to its word. One cannot but be awed with its enchanting presence.  The most beautiful in Iligan? As early as now I can say that it is one of the best waterfalls I have seen.

How to get there:

1.)    Take a Jeepney bound for Iligan City Proper. Let the driver know that you will be riding another Jeepney bound for Buru-un. (Php 7.00)
2.)    From Iligan City Proper take the Jeepney bound for Buru-un and get off at Tinago crossing or in the boundary of Buruun and Linamon.  Again, let the driver know that you’re headed to Tinago falls. (Php 14.00)
3.)    Take a habal-habal to the entrance of Tinago falls. (Php 50.00 one way)
4.)    You need now to trek the paved steps going down. Take your time and enjoy the greenery around you with the sound of the waterfalls inching closer!  (entrance is Php 5.00)

*I learned that there is another route heading to Tinago falls which require river crossing! I hope to this when I get back.

**Head to the falls early in the morning to enjoy the tranquility of its beauty. We arrived at 7:30 am with no one but us and two care takers.
