Miyamit Falls ~ Porac, Pampangga ~ Waterfall Warrior

Miyamit Falls
Location: Porac, Pampangga
Type and height: Cascade/ 80 meters *

Pampanga is a province known for its rich culture, its historic landmarks and its charming cuisine. But another component which is fast gaining attraction is its outdoors. One of which is Porac Falls.

Located on the lahars created by the eruption of Mt.Pinatubo it is reality that nature has its own way to create beauty amidst destruction.

We left Manila in the morning and drove to Porac, Pampangga. After a 2 hour drive we passed by the Porac Municipality for a courtesy call before heading to Brgy.Sapang Uwak where the jump off point of Miyamit falls is located. Be ready as the final stretch of drive will be through rough and dirt road.

Brgy. Sapang Uwak is an Aeta resettlement area and the warm smiles of hospitality greeted us as soon as we arrived. An amazing way to start the trek!

It was a bright sunny day to start the trek but we chose to take the 4x4 vehicle to make the most of our day. Through multiple rolling hills we drove with some parts even being almost 45 degree steep. Suddenly, the following hour was all rain as if the hot and sunny morning welcome we had earlier had only been a dream. From a certain point our 4x4 vehicle couldn’t push forward thus we found ourselves trekking on foot in no time.

From the main road an indirect junction emerged with a descending trail towards the left. This will lead to the falls while the main road will lead to the crater of Mt. Pinatubo.

From here, the exposed and open trail transformed to a friendlier one as we descended through wood lands and bamboo forest. Roughly 30 minutes on our trek a dilapidated stairs which has mostly been reclaimed by moss will be passed by.

Another short steep path and a stream will be visible. We followed this stream upwards until we finally reached Miyamit falls.

It was a majestic frame perfectly placed in front of me. An almost 80 meter high mountain with the top of it spluttering out clear waters that gently falls meticulously on the multiple rocks beneath it as it finally reaches its catch basin. Taking a dip is out of the question.

While sitting and listening to the waters I looked back and pondered that this was once a wasteland of lava and pumice and ash. It was once empty and barren. Nature does, has its own way in bringing back beauty on this piece of land.

How to get there:

1.)    Take a bus that will pass by Dau terminal in Pampanga.
2.)    Take a jeep going to Angeles Public Market.
3.)    From the market take another jeep going to Porac where the Munucipality of Porac is located.
4.)    From the Municipality take a tricycle to Barangay. Sapang Uwak (Php 200.00 for 3-4 persons)
5.)    Either hire a 4x4 vehicle to take you to the junction or trek from Brgy. Sapang Uwak

Logistics:

The Munucipality of Porac Pampangga requires visitors of Miyamit falls to pass by their office before heading to Brgy. Sapang Uwak.
