Kalubihon Falls
Location: Iligan City
Type and height: Ledge Waterfall/10 meters*
From Pampam falls one must only climb 10-15 mins further up to reach
Kalubihon falls. You can opt to head back to the trail of coconut trees and
from there climb up before entering the stream that leads to the falls or
navigate your way up thru the stream itself. I did the latter.
Hiking thru the stream is faster but not recommended as you
have to balance yourself on boulders which, for some, are slippery and jagged.
The most fascinating thing that dawned on me upon reaching
the end of the stream is that in order to reach Kalubihon falls one must enter first
a 15 meter long cave and swim inside it. Getting there is an adventure in itself!
This is how it looks on the other end.
Kalubihon falls.
How to get there:
1.) From the city proper take a jeepney bound to
Dalipuga. Alight at the Kalubihon intersection (Php 13.00)
2.) From the Kalubihon Crossing hire a habal-habal
and get off at Kalubihon Elementary School. Tell the driver that you’re heading
to Pampam falls/ Kalubihon falls. (Php 50.00)
3.) Ask the locals where the trail starts. Follow
the main path as this will lead you to Pampam falls. Hike up 5-10 minutes more to make it to the end of the stream where a cave with a low opening is located. This will lead you to Kalubuhon falls.
*There are minor forks
on the trails. If you’re not used to read trails it is best to ask a local to
guide you. There is no fixed rate for guiding; a generous tip is very
welcome.
Tip: It is best to wear proper foot wear with a good grip as
the boulders leading to the jump off point may be slippery. Water proof your
stuff as well.
